NOTE:  Information displayed from the commands below can be used to fill in the Vendor Platform Validation form.

Devices

  1. Boot from the installation CD/DVD.
  2. At the first screen (Welcome to OpenXT Installer), press Alt-F3
  3. At the prompt, type root and press enter.

 

2.1)  Keyboard is functional.

a)  During the above and below steps and during the actual install, note any issues with keyboard functionality.

2.2)  All hard drives visible.

a)  At the prompt, type fdisk -l and press enter.

b)  Verify and note the disk(s) have been identified by the system and the size(s) of the disk(s) are correct.

2.3)  All optical drives are visible.

a)  At the prompt, type cat /proc/sys/dev/cdrom/info

i)  Information about the capabilities of the Optical Drive is displayed.

b)  Type dmesg | egrep -i 'cdrom|dvd|cd/rw|writer' and press enter.

i)  Information about the CD/DVD device(s) is displayed.

2.4)  All network cards are visible.

a)  At the prompt, type lspci -v | grep -iE 'Wire|Ether' and press enter.

i)  Information about the Network Interface Cards is displayed.

b)  Verify that the information matches what is actually in the system.

c)  Power off the system.

Installation

Installation Steps (Covers Tasks 2.5-2.17)

NOTE: These steps apply to both the CD/DVD and Network installations (if the answer file provides the installer with the ability to select different options).

a)  Power on the system.

b)  Insert the OpenXT DVD.

c)  Press key (depending on the system) to enter the BIOS.

d)  Configure the BIOS for successful measured launch (and PXE boot if applicable).

NOTE:  This should have been accomplished in Section 1: BIOS Configuration.

e)  Boot from the OpenXT DVD.

f)  At the Welcome to the OpenXT Installer screen, select <Advanced install> and press enter.

g)  Press OK to review the license.

h)  Press OK after reviewing the license.

i)  Select Yes to accept the license.

j)  Select the United States keyboard layout.

k)  Select No to installing optional Supplemental Packs.

l)  Verify the OpenXT install disk.

m)  Select <Erase and install> at the "An existing installation of OpenXT..." screen, if applicable (or <Fresh Install> if a different version is installed).

n)  Select <Continue> to overwrite existing installation, if applicable.

o)  Enter a password and press OK.

p)  Enter the same password and press OK.

q)  Select No to allowing SSH access to the system.

r)  Select Yes to configure OpenXT Measured Launch.

s)  If the step failed, you must return to the BIOS and verify your settings and if necessary, start again (after re-configuring for a Measured Launch).

t)  If the Install configuration completed successfully, select <Continue> to proceed with the installation.

u)  At the Installation succeeded screen, select <Continue>.

i)  NOTE:  If the installation did NOT succeed, press Alt-F2 to view the logs.  To access other logs besides what is shown, press Alt-F3 and log in as root.

v)  The system should eject the OpenXT CD/DVD.  Remove the CD/DVD and close the drive tray.

w)  Select <Reboot>.

x)  The system will reboot and the OpenXT main screen will be displayed.

 

CD/DVD Installation

2.5)  System boots into OpenXT installer.

2.6)  Installer pulls respository from CD/DVD.

2.7)  Installer passes system checks.

2.8)  Installer passes measured launch checks.

NOTE:  This is based on the system being cleared and appropriate settings enabled/disabled in the BIOS (Section 1:  BIOS Configuration)

2.9)  Installer completes.

2.10)  System reboots into UIVM.

 

Network installation

2.11)  System boots to PXE or other netboot server

a)  Configure BIOS settings to ensure a PXE boot.

2.12)  OpenXT installer starts.

2.13)  Installer pulls repository from the network.

2.14)  Installer passes system checks.

2.15)  Installer passes measured launch checks.

NOTE:  This is based on the system being cleared and appropriate settings enabled/disabled in the BIOS (Section 1:  BIOS Configuration)

2.16)  Installer completes.

2.17)  System reboots into UIVM
